Three Podcast Recommendations for Writers
/This week, we at Inspira wanted to share a few podcast recommendations from our team of editors. Do you have any long road trips coming up for spring break? Are you one of those people who loves a nice, long walk in the lengthening days? If so, these series will provide you with hours of entertainment, inspiration, and education to bolster your life as a writer!
Chelsea: “Overdue is a bingeable podcast about all ‘the books you’ve been meaning to read.’ Each episode, hosts Andrew Cunningham and Craig Getting take turns reading a book, explaining it to the other, and offering their opinions and questions along the way. These guys truly read everything: from Cervantes’s Don Quixote to R. L. Stine’s Goosebumps series, no genre is off-limits. What I love about this show is how affable and approachable the hosts are. While Andrew and Craig are insightful thinkers, they do not come at literature as academics, but as regular guys. Their curious, laid-back approach to tackling books has opened me up to literature I once considered too daunting or trivial to bother with.”
Kerry: “If you like short stories and science-fiction, LeVar Burton Reads is my favorite podcast. LeVar Burton—yes, the LeVar Burton from Reading Rainbow—reads his favorite stories aloud in his deep, soothing voice.”
Tim: “Writing Excuses! Whether you have written a novel, are planning to write a novel, or merely have a passing curiosity on the topic, this podcast is a wellspring of knowledge and insight into the craft from a diverse cast of highly accomplished authors.” Cohosts Brandon Sanderson, Mary Robinette Kowal, Howard Tayler, and Daniel Wells keep episodes short (around 15 minutes) and topics specific. Check out their episode “Seven Point Story Structure” for a start!
Of course, there are thousands of excellent podcasts out there, and these three recommendations barely scratch the surface. Leave a comment with your favorite writing related series!
