There’s Always Something to Work On!

We get it. There are days when you don’t feel like writing. We have written a few blogs to help you out when you are lacking motivation or feel like you are losing steam. But maybe that’s not you, maybe you have the motivation to be productive but need a break from writing or a change of pace.

Or maybe you are in the waiting stage. You have submitted your manuscript for an evaluation or are waiting on your most recent chapter to be edited. Whether you are looking for a productive outlet for procrastination or are just waiting to hear back from your editor, there is always something you can be working on!

Productive procrastination: putting off writing your next chapter by working on other book related tasks.

Here is a list of things to work on when you need a break from writing, but still want to work on your manuscript:

  • Create your copyright page (Inspira will provide resources)

  • Write your dedication.

  • Write your acknowledgments. (Who you want to thank)

  • Brainstorm who might be good options to write a foreword for you book. When your manuscript is completed you can send them a reviewer’s copy and a request to write a foreword. (Inspira will provide resources)

  • Write your preface. (Why you wrote the book)

  • Write your author bio (Can be a sentence, a paragraph, or even a page)

  • Get your author head shot taken (make sure this is a high quality, professional photo)

  • Double check all your references (for scripture, note what versions of the Bible are used, you will need this for your copyright page)

  • Brainstorm cover ideas. If possible, browse a local bookstore and look at books in your genre. Take photos about what draws your eye and elements you dislike.

  • Create your author’s website.

  • Create an email list (with permission) of people who are excited about your book and want to be kept in the loop.

  • Brainstorm networking or speaking events.

  • Brainstorm who you want to endorse your book and request endorsements. (Inspira will provide resources)

As you can see, writing the body of your book is only the beginning! Whenever you need a break before you write your next chapter or you are waiting on your Inspira team to get back you, take a look at this list and see if there are any other tasks you could be working on in the meantime!
